Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a fee to get on the wait list?
No, there is no fee required.
How do I secure a spot for my child?
Once a spot opens up and you are next on the wait list, the centre will contact you. In order to secure the spot we require 1 months fees which is deducted off your child's first month at Gentle Steps Child Care.
Can I take a tour prior to being placed on the wait list?
We have a link to our virtual tour (located on the right). Due to covid we are avoiding anyone coming to the centre who is not currently enrolled. We offer one to families once they are offered a spot if they feel the need to have one.
Are fees due on days my child can not attend daycare?
Yes, we do not reimburse for sick or vacation days as our centre is still operating with fixed monthly expenses.
What is the staff:child ratio in your programs?
Our infant/toddler program is operated at a 1:4 ratio and our 3-5 program is operated at a 1:8 ratio.
Can I enrol my child for half days?
No, unfortunately we do not offer half day enrolment
Would it be beneficial to enrol my child for 2 days a week?
From our experience we believe that the minimum number of days a child should be enrolled is 3 days a week. This allows for consistency, routine and ample time for your child to adjust. Too many days off from daycare can throw a child off and make each week a struggle for them to adjust. We recommend full-time enrolment to maximize on social interaction and play along with keeping their weekly routine as consistent as possible.
How much notice is required to withdraw my child?
We require a minimum of 1 month's written notice due before the 1st of the month.
Is there a sibling discount?
We no longer offer sibling discount as we are currently enrolled in the Governments Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative better known as CCFRI
Is there any other assistance we can apply for to help with monthly fees?
Yes! We encourage families to apply for the Affordable Child Care Benefits program (ACCB)
Please visit their website for more information on how to apply and to estimate your potential funding.
Is there gradual entry for my child when they begin daycare?
Yes, we send out a gradual entry time line to all families that are registered in our centre.
How long should I expect it will take my child to adjust to daycare?
It really depends on the individual child. Most children can take 2-4 weeks to adjust. This will also differ according to your enrolment. If you are enrolled part time then it might take longer as there are more gaps between your child's attendance. We always ask parents to give 1 full month to allow time for gradual entry. This will ensure we are going by the pace of the child along with allowing parents to adjust being away from their little one. If your child adjusts quick then that's great! If not, we have 4 weeks to get them there and more if needed.
